Boston Bruins: Jacob Trouba Door is Open as Season Looms
Rumors are circulating that the Winnipeg Jets want to move defenseman Jacob Trouba sooner than later. That would most likely mean they want this resolved in advance of their season opener on Oct. 13. The Boston Bruins may be one potential landing spot.
Trouba is something the Bruins covet. He has size (6′ foot 3, 202 pounds), youth, and is a right-handed shot. He also eats up minutes, playing 22:03 per game last season. The former first-round draft pick from 2012 made it clear to Winnipeg that he wants out. While some may see that as diminishing his value, Jets’ General Manager Kevin Cheveldayoff will certainly want a fair ransom in return.
The Jets have been rebuilding for too long at this point to merely seeks prospects and picks in return. They will want at least one player ready to step in and contribute, if not two. Published reports state they would like at least a left-handed shot defenseman in return, and that is something the Bruins have to offer, in the way of Torey Krug.

While Krug may be a few years older and quite a bit smaller than Trouba, his offensive numbers in the past three years are better. Krug has a line of 240 games played, with 30 goals and 94 assists, and is a plus-40. Trouba has played in 211 games, with 23 goals and 49 assists and is plus-16. Krug also has very friendly contact for Winnipeg to absorb, as he has a four-year deal at $5.25 million annually. He would be able to help the Jets power play more than Trouba, who saw more action killing penalties than he did on the man advantage.

Cheveldayoff will certainly want more than Krug. It is rumored they may ask for David Pastrnak, and that may be a deal breaker. Perhaps a combination of Krug, a draft pick, and another prospect that the Bruins would be willing to deal would be able to get it done.
