Brad Marchand wants to play his entire career for the Boston Bruins.
At the end of last season, Boston Bruins forward Brad Marchand was disappointed. The Black and Gold had failed to make the playoffs for the second straight season.
While the Bruins didn’t get the job done, it was still a great year for Boston’s “Little Ball of Hate”. The 28-year old forward had a record season, putting up 61 points for the B’s. He also was the team leader in goals with 37.
Marchand has continued to grow in the NHL. He’s been able to maintain his elite level of play while cutting back on a lot of the unnecessary penalties. He’ll be a candidate for one of the open alternate captain positions this season, and he’s likely going to wear an ‘A’ on opening night.
Brad Marchand really wants to be a career player for the Boston Bruins. That doesn’t usually happen for a NHL player. They’ll usually get traded at least once in their career. It’s clear though that Marchand would like to spend the rest of his career playing alongside Patrice Bergeron.
“We’ll see,” offered Marchand on the state of his contract back in April. “That’s a little ways away right now, but if the time comes and that comes up then we’ll deal with it then. But that’s not what we’re thinking about right now, it’s more about the disappointment right now. I obviously love being a part of this organization, this city and this team, and I don’t think this team is done having some good runs.

“I would love to be a part of this organization for the rest of my career, but the reality is when you look around the league that it doesn’t happen for many guys. We’ll deal with it when the time comes, I don’t think anybody is going to push it right now.”
Well now the Bruins are beginning to push. Boston Bruins general manager Sweeney shared with the media on Friday that the Bruins have started discussions with Marchand’s camp. In fact, the biggest thing on the Bruins plate right now is making sure that some kind of deal is made to secure Marchand long-term.
“I’ve started talks with Brad’s group,” said Sweeney. “I think I’ve been pretty upfront with the fact that we’ve identified as a core guy, and we want to continue down that path. It always takes two sides to make a deal, and I would envision that he’d like to be a part of this organization for what could arguably be his whole career. Brad has a say in this as well, but as far as talking contracts that’s about as far as I’ll go in that regard.”
