This is an ugly surprise for all fans of the Boston Bruins. Former Bruins All-Star (and Hall of Famer) Ray Bourque was arrested last night. Apparently, the arrest had to do with Bourque allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol.
Bourque was arrested in Andover late last night. The police report states the 55-year-old Bourque was arrested around 11:30 p.m. on Friday. The arrest occured after Bourque’s after Mercedes-Benz rear-ended a minivan in a construction zone in the city.
No injuries were reported at the scene.
Bourque was charged with two offenses: Operating under the influence of alcohol and following too closely. Bourque posted bail and was released. Sometime in the near future, He will be arraigned in Lawrence District Court.
Bourque played for the Boston Bruins from 1979-2000. After attempting to win a Stanley Cup in Boston for twenty seasons, he was traded to the Colorado Avalanche. Bourque ended up winning the Cup with the Avalanche in the 2000-01 season.
Ray Bourque is a legend of hockey. He was inducted in the Hall of Fame in his first year of eligibility. He is just one of six players who has their number retired in more than one NHL team (Boston Bruins & Colorado Avalnche). He’s still a consultant to the Bruins organization.
It’s disappointing to see this happen. Hopefully, this whole matter will be resolved quickly.
