Boston Bruins Prospects: Jake DeBrusk And Jeremy Lauzon Memorial Cup Aspirations
Over the weekend, some of the Boston Bruins’ more highly-touted prospects continued their quest to win the CHL’s top honor, the Memorial Cup. Both Jake DeBrusk — The Bruins’ 14th overall draft pick from the 2015 NHL Entry Draft — and Jeremy Lauzon — The Bruins’ 52nd overall draft pick in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft — are set to play for their respective teams as they attempt to reach their goal.

Jake DeBrusk lived up to his name immediately this weekend, notching one goal and adding three assists in two games. In the head-to-head match-up between DeBrusk’s Red Deer Rebels’ and Lauzon’s Rouyn-Noranda Huskies, it was DeBrusk who came out on top in both points and with the win. The Rebel’s entered the second period down by one goal before DeBrusk made a beautifully-timed poke-check in the defensive zone which led to the tying goal for his club. DeBrusk was also able to score a goal and add another helper as well as seven total shots on net before everything was said-and-done in the Rebel’s 5-2 victory.
In 51 games this season, Jake DeBrusk scored 21 goals (half of his 42 from the previous season) as well as 44 assists for 65 points split between the Swift-Current Broncos and the Red Deer Rebels. DeBrusk dealt with some injuries this season and made a concious effort to work on his two-way game to become a more well-rounded player which might explain his drop in offensive production. In 17 playoff games this season, DeBrusk has scored eight goals and added nine assists for 17 points.

Jake DeBrusk was also able to tally an assist in the Rebel’s 6-2 loss to the London Nights. Per the Bruins’ website, DeBrusk’s four points in two Memorial Cup games places him in second in the scoring standings behind Toronto Maple Leafs-prospect and London Knights-forward Mitch Marner.
Jeremy Lauzon was able to tally an assist in the 5-2 loss to the Red Deer Rebel’s, however, which isn’t surprising given his offensive ability that shined all year long. In 46 games this season, Lauzon tallied 10 goals and 40 assists for 50 points in 46 games to go along with his plus-40 rating. In nine playoff games so far this season, Lauzon has eight points. After suffering a scary neck-laceration earlier in the playoffs, Lauzon seemingly hasn’t skipped a beat as he came right back into his role on the team without any issues or setbacks.
Playing in such a high-stakes tournament can only bode well for the development of these two Bruins’ prospects, regardless of who wins — if either of them do — or who loses. The Bruins’ future looks bright with players like Lauzon and DeBrusk waiting in the wakes.
