Boston Bruins: Brad Marchand Scores Short-Handed Beauty At World Championships As Canada Routs USA

Brad Marchand wasted no time to do what he does best at the IIHF World Hockey Championships. In a match-up that pitted Brad Marchand of team Canada versus Frank Vatrano of team USA, Brad Marchand found the twine with a short-handed beauty that beat Keith Kinkaid down low. The Canadians went on to beat the U.S. team by a score of 5-1 in the tournaments first game. Frank Vatrano didn’t record a point in the game but he also managed to do what he does best as showed his affinity to shoot the puck in his first game of the tournament.

Brad Marchand is no stranger to scoring short-handed goals. In his six year career in the NHL, Brad Marchand has made a name for himself as one of the most dangerous players in short-handed situations. The Bruins forward has scored 19 short handed goals in his six year NHL career including two seasons with five, and four last season.

Brad Marchand is getting a chance to showcase his ability with some top-tier linemates at the World Championships this year as he’s skating on a line alongside Matt Duchene of the Colorado Avalanche and Connor McDavid of the Edmonton Oilers. There aren’t many better players in the NHL than those two forwards, but with his short-handed breakout that started from his own blueline, Marchand showed that he’s a force to be reckoned with as well.

After having a breakout campaign this season with 37 goals and 61 points in the NHL this season, Brad Marchand put himself on the radar for Hockey Canada.  A good performance at this tournament could provide Brad Marchand with an opportunity to play for Canada during the World Cup of Hockey alongside Patrice Bergeron this September.

Brad Marchand‘s next chance to impress will come on May 8th when Canada takes on Hungary. With Canada routing the US the way they did, Brad Marchand should get another chance to score some goals against Hungary who is a considerably weaker opponent.
