The New England Sports Network (NESN) ran its annual 7th Player Award. This award is voted on the fans and awarded to the Boston Bruins player that the fans believe have exceeded their expectations. Halfway through the season, it looked like Ryan Spooner was going to be the choice. As the season progressed, one player worked hard to earn a career high amount of goals this season.

Boston Bruins forward Brad Marchand was this year’s winner of the 7th Player Award. This is the second time Marchand has won this honor(he first won the award back in 2011). He’s currently tied for fifth in overall scoring in the league with 59 points.

It’s a huge honor,” said Marchand to NESN just before the game. “I don’t think I really expected it. I’ve been here for a while, and it’s normally a younger guy that comes in and has a good year (who wins the award), so it’s a big honor for me. Obviously, I owe a lot to my teammates and how they’ve helped me progress and the coaching staff and the opportunity that they gave me this year.”

The 27-year old forward has been the complete package for the Bruins this season. He’s the team’s leading goal scorer with 37 goals, and is currently fourth in overall scoring in Boston. He’s tied for second in the league for short-handed goals with four. He’s also in the top twenty in the league for plus/minus and game winning goals. He’s certainly been one of the best players for the Black and Gold in recent memory.

Marchand has certainly had some ups and downs during his career, and this season was no exception. He told the fans that he was committing to be a better player and a more visible leader for the Bruins just before the start of the season. He briefly earned the ‘A’ on his jersey this season (but then lost it for getting suspended just before the Winter Classic).

Congratulations to Boston’s Little Ball of Hate for being recognized by the fans as one of the best the Bruins have to offer.
