If the Boston Bruins are trying to keep their fans in suspense, they can cut it out any time now. The Black and Gold have dropped their last five games. Part of that is due to a lack of team drive. Part of it is due to refs who apparently can’t call a good goal without the blessing of the home office in Toronto. The rest is the team taking their foot off the gas and not playing to their potential.

More from Bruins News

As of last night, the Boston Bruins chances of making the Stanley Cup Playoffs are now 69.7%. That’s nearly a 17 point drop from before last night’s Bruins-Panthers game (where team zebra once again conspired to do their part to take two points away from Boston).  The Bruins could have fought back, but the refs stealing Patrice Bergeron‘s goal took the wind out of their sails for good.

I’m just trying to figure out Toronto’s motivation here. They stole goals from Boston against the Rangers and against the Panthers. In both cases we’re looking at good goals. Sadly, the refs were either obtuse or engaging in criminal activity. (I’m really hoping for obtuse.) Apparently, further video review dictated that those pucks were just plain figments of Claude Julien‘s imagination.

The faith in the fans has certainly sagged in the last week. The Boston Bruins have certainly felt the TD Garden get a degree or two cooler because of it. Still, the Bruins believe they’ll make the postseason.

Bruins captain Zdeno Chara told the media that he still had faith in his team after last night’s surprising 4-1 loss to the Panthers. He still believes the team can get through its current troubles and find a way to see the post season.

“We’re really focused on what’s happening now'” said Chara on the team’s current effort to get back on track. “I know it’s really easy to point out similarities to last season, but I think we knew all along that this was going to be a very tight race. It’s never easy to make the playoffs. I think this team is good enough to make the playoffs. I think we will make the playoffs. It’s going to be a fight until the end.

“We have seven games left, and every point is going to be a big point. A lot of teams are in a similar situation, so we need to focus on us, and how we’re going to play.”

Hopefully Big Z and the rest of the Bruins will hold true to that. But it certainly wouldn’t help if the home office in Toronto could get over the fact that there are nearly no color photos of their last Stanley Cup team in existence and start calling the remainder of the Bruins games fairly.
