In 63 games so far this season, Loui Eriksson has scored 23 goals and added 25 assists for 48 points. He’s on pace to reach his best season statistics since he was a Dallas Star, and the Boston Bruins failed to trade him to a team that was looking to make a move to help bolster playoff chances. Loui Eriksson was arguably the most valuable player available at the trade deadline even prior to Andrew Ladd being moved to Chicago, which led many Bruins fans to begin speculating what his value might be the second Chicago and Winnipeg pulled off their trade.
As a constant threat on offense, Loui Eriksson not only looks good on the ice, but he makes his line mates look good too. Eriksson is known first and foremost, however, as a two-way player who can play an effective 200-foot game that made him an incredibly valuable asset on the Boston Bruins who model their team around players who are defensively accountable but can also produce offense, like Patrice Bergeron, David Krejci, and Brad Marchand.

With Loui Eriksson remaining with the Boston Bruins, the team remains in the hunt for a playoff spot. The main purpose of general manager Don Sweeney discussing the option of keeping Eriksson through the trade deadline, extended or not, was because the Bruins are currently so high up in the NHL standings. Despite where they sit in the standings, it doesn’t seem likely that the Boston Bruins will make a legitimate push for the Stanley Cup this season, and Don Sweeney should have made a move that would help the Bruins in their continued retool that started in June.

The Boston Bruins were still believed to be active in trade discussions, however, as they had been rumored to be in play for Dan Hamhuis, Kris Russell, and even Jonathan Drouin, in the days leading up to the trade deadline. The Bruins did, however, acquire John-Michael Liles and Lee Stempniak just prior to the deadline.
