The Boston Bruins have made their first transaction on February 29th ahead of the NHL trade deadline. After sending Tyler Randell to the Providence Bruins of the AHL on February 27th for a conditioning stint, the Bruins have recalled their fourth line right winger to return to the main roster.

More from Bruins News

Tyler Randell is playing in his first full NHL season and has played in 25 games so far with the Boston Bruins. He’s scored five goals with zero assists and has amassed 47 penalty minutes while also registering 12.78 hits per 60 minutes, good for second on the team behind only Zac Rinaldo.

While in Providence, Tyler Randell has played in two games, both as a part of a conditioning stint, and the Bruins have clearly deemed him ready to return to the lineup already.

More from Causeway Crowd

In parts of five seasons with the Providence Bruins, Tyler Randell has been a very effective fourth-line, energy player who isn’t afraid to hit anything that moves. In 172 games in the AHL with Providence, Randell has scored 17 goals and added 16 assists for 33 points. Randell has also added 314 penalty minutes in those 172 games, a testament to his willingness to drop the gloves whenever necessary.

The Boston Bruins have also waived both Maxime Talbot and Zac Rinaldo on February 27th and 28th respectively, with Maxime Talbot clearing waivers the next day and Zac Rinaldo playing in the Bruins game that very same day. After a questionable hit that led to Tampa Bay Lightning Forward Cedric Paquette leaving the ice at the end of the first period and only returning to the ice in the second period, it doesn’t seem likely that a team will claim Zac Rinaldo, but a possible suspension could be in his future.

The Boston Bruins could still use Maxime Talbot on their fourth line alongside Joonas Kemppainen and Landon Ferraro, but having Tyler Randell back in the mix will give the Bruins more options on their bottom line. Randell certainly adds more physicality than any other player in the Bruins forward group with the exception of Matt Beleskey, and the Bruins could use that physicality for a potential playoff push.

Next: Boston Bruins Options For Loui Eriksson

The Boston Bruins next transaction could be a major one. Whether they add to their current roster or finally pull the trigger on a Loui Eriksson deal is left to be determined, but the 2016 NHL Trade Deadline should be an interesting one for the Boston Bruins.
