Patrice Bergeron has been a big part of the Bruins renaissance. He helped bring the Cup to Boston back in 2011, and is the sure bet on the captaincy once Zdeno Chara retires from hockey. Tonight, the 31-year old forward played in his 800th career NHL game. He’s played his entire career with the Black and Gold.

Overall, Bergeron was his usual self, putting up two points for the B’s tonight. The Bruins alternate captain netted his 23rd goal of the season halfway through the first period.  Bergeron went after a loose puck near the bottom of the right circle and sent it over Carolina goaltender Cam Ward. He also earned an assist on Brad Marchand‘s empty netter at the end of the game.

The goal now ties him with Loui Eriksson for second overall scoring on the team. He current leads all scorers on the team with 53 points this season. So far in his career, he’s put up 603 points in those 800 game. It says something about Bergeron’s consistency to put up that kind of production night after night, season after season.

Bergeron has been a proven asset for the Bruins over the last decade. He’s always played a complete three-zone, two way game. He’s considered to be one of the top two centers in the league (for those who don’t like Johnathan Toews).  He’s earned every accolade handed to him over his career, and he’s got three Selke Awards (and the Stanley Cup) to show for it.

Bergeron will be one of those players that never leaves Boston. Most of the media refer to him as ‘Rafters’, because they know where number 37 will end up. So, congratulations to the Boston Bruins on another great road win, and congratulations to their alternate captain for adding yet another milestone to his future Hall of Fame career.
