Boston Bruins forward Patrice Bergeron is heading home from Nashville. Bergeron spent his second consecutive All-Star appearance being part of the weekend’s festivities (including the John Scott show). Bergeron competed in three different events and played a solid role with the Atlantic Division All-Star team.

The Atlantic team beat the Metropolitan team 4-3 in the Eastern conference game. Bergeron put two shots on goal and registered three takeaways.  He led all Atlantic skaters with 8:37 of ice time.

Bergeron and the Atlantic Division brought one of the best defensive games in an All-Star game, but fell 1-0 to Team Pacific. Once again, Patrice Bergeron brought his three-zone, two-way game to Nashville, much to the chagrin of fellow NHL All-Stars. He had three shots on goal, one takeaway, and was once again his usual perfect self in the faceoff circle.

It figures. Bergeron is usually perfect, especially in the big games. Still, Bergeron was impressed (and perhaps a tad surprised) by how many other All-Stars got into the backcheck during the game.

“Guys were definitely trying and that’s why it was so low-scoring like that,” offered the Bruins alternate captain.  “The guys, they don’t want to give up anything, and we were watching the second game and a lot of breakaways and 2-on-1’s and stuff like that, and it seemed like that last one was more of a compact kind of tight coverage game.”

This was certainly more than just another All-Star game. Patrice Bergeron brought his newborn son Zach to Nashville, and it made the Bruins forward all the more happier. While Bergy was certainly thrilled with his first All-Star performance, having his son with him made the new dad all the more excited about the weekend.

Now Bergeron heads back to Boston. Bergy will need to help the Black and Gold move forward as the Bruins recover from a lackluster 6-6-1 January. Still, Bergeron has been the most productive member of the Black and Gold, putting up 19 goals and 44 points so far this season.
