“Over the past feed weeks our organization has gotten to know Denna and her family, and we have all been inspired by their positive attitudes and Denna’s fighting sprit,” Charlie Jacobs, the CEO of the Boston Bruins, recently said. “As leaders in the New England hockey community, we want to help with Denna’s recovery and rehab and this is our first step in what will be continuing support for the Laing family.”
The 24-year old was injured on December 31st at Gillette Stadium while playing for the Boston Pride and taking on Montreal Les Canadiennes. Unfortunately, Denna Laing was the subject of a terrible accident when she crashed into the board head first after stepping on a stick. The result was terrifying for everyone watching as she was taken off the ice on a stretcher.

Hockey rivalries are something fans thrive on, but regardless of where a player plays, they all have a home, and they all have family. The Hayes brothers, Jimmy Hayes of the Boston Bruins, and Kevin Hayes of the New York Rangers, have exemplified this recently by working together to help raise money for Denna Laing as well. The Massachusetts natives reached out to Barstool and pledged to donate $1,000 for every $10,000 of t-shirts sold. In addition to Jimmy and Kevin Hayes, Corey Schneider and Ryan Whitney have also pledged to donate $1,000 for every $10,000 raised on Bartstool.

This is just one small way I saw guys are doing from the Boston area. Hopefully, it’s just the start, and maybe we can find a way to do some more for her.”
Barstool has currently raised over $60,000 in T-shirt sales.

Many hockey players have followed the trend and have agreed to contribute in some way, but the outpouring of support from NHL and college hockey teams following the injury was heartwarming. The New York Rangers, Montreal Canadiens, and Washington Capitals of the NHL all tweeted out their well wishes recently:
Denna Laing played collegiate hockey at Princeton University from 2010-2014, and her former friends, rivals, and teammates have all shown their support recently with #14Strong pictures.
Princeton soon followed up the St. Lawrence University Saints picture with one of their own, and the trend has continued from there.
From Yale, to the Robert Morris University Women’s Hockey Team, as Boston College, Syracuse, Colgate University, UConn, and St. Norbert College, among others, the trend of the #14Strong picture has been replicated and shared.
