Tonight was a memorable night for the Boston Bruins. The depleted Bruins put Cory Schneider in their sights throughout the game. Even without David Krejci, Brad Marchand, and Adam McQuaid, the Bruins put their foot down early and kept the pressure on the New Jersey Devils all night. The B’s put up a 4-1 win over New Jersey, giving the franchise their 3000th career win.

Ryan Spooner, Colin Miller, and Dennis Seidenberg all head multi-point games tonight. They were also the Three Stars of the Game. The Bruins played to their strengths throughout the game. By the third period, the team had a commanding lead, and their style of play completely demoralized the Devils. The Black and Gold were able to hold New Jersey to just four shots on goal in the final period.
The Bruins have a recent track record of exorcising the Devils, no matter where they end up playing. This makes five straight wins that Boston has over New Jersey. In their last 20 games played against each other, the Bruins have won 17 of them.
This is only the second time in NHL history that any franchise has been able to put up that many wins. (The other team is the Bruins ancient enemy, the Montreal Canadiens.) It’s a good feeling knowing that ‘The Ultimate Bruin’ Milt Schmidt (who is currently the oldest person to ever play in a NHL game) lived long enough for the Black and Gold to reach this milestone.
The Boston Bruins used tonight’s win to leap frog over the Devils in the wild card hunt. The Bruins are currently fourth in the Atlantic, and are holding the top wild card in the Eastern Conference. Tonight’s game was the first of a five game road trip for Boston, and the B’s have certainly done their best work while on the road. The Bruins have the second best record on the road for teams in the East, having gone 12-3-2 while away from the TD Garden.
The Bruins will start their quest for win 4,000 when they head over to Canada to take on the Ottawa Senators tomorrow night.
