The Boston Bruins were handily swept of Gillette Stadium by the Montreal Canadiens this afternoon. It was a 5-1 loss that showed the Bruins playing one of their worst games of this season in one of the biggest venues they’ll ever play in.  The Bruins certainly let themselves and their fans down today.

Tuukka Rask was the Bruins best player on the ice this afternoon. He had to do his best to make up for some terrible defensive coverage during the game. Even though Rask did his best, the Canadiens were consistently in his crease making his life miserable. When asked about the loss post game, the Finnish netminder was blunt with his answer.

“I’d say embarrased more than disappointed,” said Rask. “Yeah, embarrassing loss.”

Coach Claude Julien agreed with the assessment of a lot of the media in his teams’ performance.

“The unfortunate part is that I think we played one of our probably worst games at the worst time,” offered the Bruins bench boss on the teams shellacking. “I think it just seemed like it was one of those nights we couldn’t get anything going in the first period. They were all over us, and it just didn’t matter what we tried to do here, we just couldn’t get it going.”

“We obviously didn’t deserve to win. We kind of have to push this aside – and unfortunate that it was on a big stage like this, and you would like to have your team give a better performance, but we didn’t.”

  • Yes, it’s safe to say that the Boston Bruins didn’t bring their ‘A’ game today. In fact he would be a stretch to say they brought their beer league game today. While the loss was disheartening, and once again the Canadiens are back on top of the Atlantic Division, there is one thing a lot of people should see.

    It’s just a two-point game.

Hockey teams have a short term memory for a reason. If they brooded on every loss, they would need a licensed therapist as their head coach. The Bruins will jump right back on the horse and battle again for every two points as the teams reach the halfway mark of the season. (A season where the Bruins have been defying expectations.)

The Bruins have had terrible games before. Just look at the start of the season. It was a Black and Gold train wreck. The Bruins were able to pick themselves up and they climbed their way out of the basement.

Even with the loss, the Bruins are still just three points out of the top space in the Atlantic. Not bad for a team that was written off by practically everyone in October. Once Brad Marchand and David Krejci return, so will the Bruins we know and respect. The Canadiens may have beaten the Bruins today, but there is an angry bear following the Habs, and that bear is hungry.
