The Boston Bruins are already experiencing issues with injuries. Right winger Seth Griffith left the Bruins first preseason game early during the second period. The injury occurred when Griffith and Devil’s forward Tuomo Ruutu collided with one another, with Griffith’s knee being the primary point of contact.

The actual severity of the injury isn’t known yet, and details are expected to be released as they become known. Boston Bruins head coach said “I don’t know much. You saw it was that knee on Ruutu that hit him, so whether it’s a charley horse or whether it’s more than that, I don’t know. We’ll see a little bit later. I don’t really get into that during the game, so I’ll look at it as usually. I’ll probably give you a little bit more details (Monday) once he’s seen by our medical staff here.”

Seth Griffith is expected to be one of the forwards competing for a role with the big club to start the regular season and this injury could hurt his chances. Griffith was able to score highlight real goals for the Bruins last season during his 30 games with the big club, and he’s certainly able to generate speed and offense. Griffith skated on a line with Alexander Khokhlachev, who is also trying to win a roster spot, and 2015 first round draft pick Jake DeBrusk. Before leaving the game, Griffith was able to record just one shot on goal.
The Boston Bruins won’t have to worry about a lack of forwards competing for a job in camp if Griffith’s injury does happen to be severe. Players such as Brian Ferlin, Alexander Khokhlachev, Jonas Kemppainen, among others are all fighting for an everyday role with Boston, and at least one of them should be able to earn a fourth line role or 13th forward role.
