The Boston Bruins will still have to prove they made the right choices as the B’s get ready for training camp. They’ll need to show the fan base that they’ve filled in all the holes in their roster. While the Bruins have found adequate replacements for Milan Lucic, Carl Soderberg, Gregory Campbell, and Daniel Paille, they haven’t really found someone who could be the next Dougie Hamilton for Boston.

The Black and Gold did go digging through other teams and free agency to find someone who might fit the bill. Could Matt Irwin be the next top-four forward for Boston? Possible, but not likely. Could Colin Miller be the one? Again, it’s a possibility but not entirely probable. Could Adam McQuaid be the one for Boston? That’s highly doubtful.
The Boston Bruins are going to need to promote someone on their squad to take over top-four minutes. Thankfully, he’s been there the last few seasons. The person the Bruins will need to promote up is Torey Krug. The 24-year old blueliner will be entering his third full season with the Bruins, and he’s ready to prove he can handle the minutes and pressure as a top-four defenseman.
Krug has a history of coming out of nowhere. Krug was signed as a free agent. He earned his spot on the Bruins by beating out a lot of drafted players. He surprised us all during the Bruins Cup run at the end of the 2012-13 season. He put up four goals during those playoffs, and worked his way up from potential flash in the pan to full-time member of the team.

With the departure of Hamilton, Torey Krug is now the Bruins most offensive defenseman. He’s also one of the fastest players the Bruins have. The organization will need to use his talents in a more profound role next season. When Zdeno Chara went down with his damaged knee, the organization had to lean on Krug more. Last season, his average on-ice time shot up to 19:36 per game.
Torey Krug (at the moment) is the best possible choice for the Bruins right now. They might as well go with what they know and hope for the best. While it isn’t the best possible solution for the Black and Gold, the Bruins front office know the kind of player they have in number forty-seven.
