Being from London, Ontario, I have the hockey fan’s benefit of having a great OHL team to cheer for every year. The London Knights have put together a fine decade of hockey, winning the J. Ross Robertson Cup (OHL Championship) three times, winning the Hamilton Spector Trophy (most points in the OHL regular season) five times, winning the Wayne Gretzky Trophy (OHL Western Conference Champions) four times, winning OHL Midwest Division seven times, and making it to the Memorial Cup Final Four (CHL Championship) four times, winning once in the 2004-05 season.

What is even more impressive about the London Knights is the amount of talented players that they have given the NHL throughout the years. In a recent article, written in the London Free Press, Ryan Peyette lists all of the former London Knights players that currently have positions in the NHL. He goes so far as to say that, if all of the former London Knights were put on one team, they could compete for the Stanley Cup.
When asked about a team of former Knights players, long time London Knights coach, and former Washington Capitals coach (the one that helped the Capitals defeat the Bruins in the 2012 playoffs), Dale Hunter, commented, “I don’t know about the Cup, but I’ll tell you one thing. We’d make the playoffs for sure.” Click here for a look at the list of former London Knights currently playing in the NHL.

While the team looks fairly good, what really stands out is the number of current and former Bruins. Seth Griffith, Zac Rinaldo and Chris Kelly remain on Boston while Dennis Wideman and Michael Hutchinson have gone on to great success elsewhere. Seeing these former London Knights, all potential Boston Bruins roster players, gave me no choice but to spread the word about how this could possibly be the new nickname for the Boston Bruins fourth line.
“The London Line,” or “The Knights Line” would be a great way to reference Chris Kelly, Zac Rinaldo and Seth Griffith playing together, which is one of the more likely scenarios going into training camp. Although it is only a name, and I am very biased to suggest such a thing, little coincidences like this is what makes nicknames generally come about. With Max Talbot and Brian Ferlin as the two healthy scratches, I would love to see these former London Knights start the season, or at least, training camp, on a line together.
