Don Cherry is a colorful figure in hockey (in more ways than one). The one-time coach of the Boston Bruins shouted out on social media a very virulent defense of embattled New England Patriots Quarterback Tom Brady. Grapes rarely pulls punches on any topic, and he’s true to form here. While this isn’t a hockey article per se, Cherry has done enough for the Bruins organization over the years for him to be heard here.

So, tell us how you really feel Grapes.
For all the bluster Don Cherry can bring to practically any argument, he’s made some good points. Brady is everything Cherry says he is: rich, good looking, married to a supermodel, and has deserved every award he has been given. In one case, he gave away the Super Bowl MVP prize to a player that he felt was more deserving of it than he was.

The evidence that was put up against Tom Brady was circumstantial at best. The best thing Commissioner Goodell’s report came up with was ‘he probably knew about it’. In the mean time, Goodell had to be shamed into giving suspensions to players who were seen on video abusing their spouses and children. (This makes sense on WHAT planet?)
Even if there was direct, tangible evidence to Brady’s guilt, there would be people who would defend Brady to the death. On the other turn, there is a fraction of football fans out there that will believe Brady is guilty. It won’t matter that he could be exonerated, they’ll insist that on some level he knew/did something to those footballs. They’ll be the ones wanting to put an asterisk next to Brady’s name for all time.
Let me finish this up with a disclaimer; I am not a fan of football. With all the blatantly criminal acts committed by NFL players over the last few months I just assumed that this was another case of a football star doing something dirty and expecting to get away with it.
In Tom Brady’s case I was wrong.
