Boston Bruins: Patrice Bergeron Ready For Next Season

Boston Bruins forward and alternate captain Patrice Bergeron has been called the ‘heart and soul of the Bruins’. While he’s one of the anchors for the Bruins, he was also one of the few players who played the full season for the Black and Gold.  Yesterday he commented to the media on how hungry the new core of Bruins are going into the 2015-16 season.

“It was to be expected, I guess, given the situation that we were in and the way the year ended,” said Bergeron of the disappointing last season. “It’s always tough to see guys go to be perfectly honest…it’s especially tough when it’s guys that you’ve won with. But it’s the business that we’re in, and it’s the nature of the game. You have to be a professional, and you have to look forward with what they’ve done.

“I have a lot of trust in Don and the management group. We brought in a bunch of guys that were excited to be here, want to be here and have a lot of talent as well…a lot of young guys as well with prospects and whatnot. I’m looking forward to it, and I’m excited.”

The Bruins turned over a third of their roster this season. This is the biggest influx of new players in recent memory. Players who were expected to be career players for Boston (Milan Lucic and Dougie Hamilton) are gone. Now, new Bruins and old will have to push forward getting this team back into the playoffs come opening night.

  • Still, Patrice Bergeron is excited to see the new blood in Boston, and knows they’ll do their best to help the team moving forward.

Jimmy Hayes is a guy that’s from the area, and he’s definitely excited to be here,” said Bergeron of the B’s new blood. “Matt Beleskey is a guy that probably took less to be here with us. It means a lot me as a player to see guys like that coming in that are really excited to play here. I’m excited to be a Bruin, and really looking forward to starting this year.”

Bergeron is looking forward to exorcising the demons of last season. Last year’s team leader in points knows that the B’s have a lot of history behind them, and one of the most passionate fan bases in all of sports . He knows what is expected of himself (and he’s never let us down yet) and of the rest of the team. Bergeron is ready for the challenge of next season, and he’s ready to push forward like the leader he is.

“You’ve got to have high expectations for yourself, and high expectations for the team,” said Bergeron. “I’ve got a lot of trust in the guys that we’re bringing in, and a lot of trust in . As players we have to be honest, and know that individually we didn’t have good years last year. We have to be better. If we do that then it’s going to happen, and we’ll be a better team.
