As we all know, player development never stops. Whether you are a 2015 first round pick of the Boston Bruins or the reigning Bruins captain, every player has a chance, every day of their life, to develop and make the most of the opportunity that has been presented to them.

Jake DeBrusk has shown the Boston Bruins organization, and fans, already that he is the type of player that continues to develop, in every aspect of the game. As a newly drafted player, DeBrusk has made the most of his first development camp by creating and posting a blog about his experience. His blog can be found on the Boston Bruins official website.

Even if you didn’t already know who Jake DeBrusk was, an act such as this is what separates one player from the rest of the group. DeBrusk is showing the Boston Bruins more of who he is by interacting with the entire Bruins community with this blog. We are all learning more about him, which leads to us liking him even more.

“The most surreal part of the day was putting on the jersey and seeing the fans. I used to be one of those kids as well. It’s an incredibly cool moment to be on the other side of that” – Jake DeBrusk

“It’s something that will take some getting used to,” DeBrusk says of becoming more popular in Boston, and his Edmonton home. “But most of all, I can’t wait to get started and am so proud to have been drafted by the Boston Bruins.”

DeBrusk’s excitement is evident. Seeing a player put this much additional effort into a development camp (not a rookie camp or training camp in September, but a development camp) must be very encouraging to see from the Bruins front office. Putting in the extra time for his blog shows that he is already set on contributing to the Boston Bruins in any way that he can.

  • Not all Bruins fans have the chance to attend development camp or see the new Boston Bruins in the flesh. The internet has always been a means to connect with a grander audience and Jake DeBrusk has done just that. Now, even with this article, he is already attracting more attention than he ever would have had he not decided to create this blog.

“The most surreal part of the day was putting on the jersey and seeing the fans. I used to be one of those kids as well.” DeBrusk states in his Day 3 Blog (all quotes are from Jake DeBrusk’s blog and can be found on the Boston Bruins website), “It’s an incredibly cool moment to be on the other side of that.” With the way that he has presented himself since his draft day, it seems like Jake DeBrusk is in store for some more cool moments.
