It’s been an interesting past week for the Bruins that started Friday at the NHL Draft. General manager Don Sweeney has gone from clearing house to retooling. But have the Bruins finished making moves?

Will Boston be big and tough or follow NHL’s young, speedy trend?
Don Sweeney spoke to the media for his opening press conference in May stating that the team needs to find a new identity. Wednesday’s deals, although valuable and help the Bruins moving forward, do not necessarily suggest the team is heading in a new direction. Other teams in the league (Montreal, Tampa Bay, and the New York Rangers) have shown that off the rush speed wins games.

While Matt Beleskey and Jimmy Hayes are two big bodies that mesh with defenders in the slot, they won’t make the Bruins faster. Hayes can chase rebounds, and Beleskey is can work well from zone to zone( like Milan Lucic). Yet Wednesday’s proceedings did not make the Bruins a better goal-scoring team. The Boston Bruins are in search of a sniper and top-four defensemen. Hayes and Beleskey assimilate well with the cap. The general manager still has the capital to take a stab at a talented offensive shot, such as Patrick Sharp.
