The Boston Bruins have been a boon to the city of Boston for nearly one hundred years. Their charitable acts have done substantial good in the community over the years, and once again the Boston Bruins Foundation takes another strong step in helping the people of Massachusetts and beyond.

This time around, the Boston Bruins have chosen to crash the net against autism. The Boston Bruins Foundation donated to FRAXA research,  a non-profit organization based out of Newburyport, Mass. Their goal is to help support scientific research in an effort to figure out the cause of and help vanquish Fragile X Syndrome.

Fragile X is a gene dysfunction that is the leading cause of autism. People with it can also suffer from AD/HD, severe mood problems, and other developmental disabilities.

The $90,000 total donation ($45,000 was pledged today, and $45,000 more in 2016) is one of the largest donations in the history of the organization.  The award will enable FRAXA to fund an entirely new research project aimed at developing new treatments.

This story hits close to home. I have a family member who falls under the autism spectrum. Twenty years ago, there wasn’t much known about autism. Thankfully, research and medications are helping people today live more productive lives. Non-profits like FRAXA are doing what they can to make life better, one person at a time.

We’re hockey fans, and we love the Boston Bruins. For me, there’s more than just watching the guys play hockey. It’s great to see a total commitment to the people around them. From the players to the front office, the B’s care about giving back whenever they can. It’s great to see another reason why we’ve got the best team in hockey in our own backyard.
