Boston Bruins Fire GM Peter Chiarelli
After nine season with the Boston Bruins, GM Peter Chiarelli has been let go. This will not come as a surprise to many, since based on his decisions over the past few years many fans saw his exit coming.
”We are grateful for Peter’s service to the Bruins organization over the last nine seasons. His efforts undoubtedly helped the team achieve great success during his tenure and he helped restore the proud tradition of Boston Bruins hockey. We ultimately feel that this change is necessary in order to ensure sustainable success for the club both in the short term and the long term. Our search for a new General Manager will begin immediately.” Cam Neely on Peter Chiarelli
As the organization’s 7th GM, he holds a pretty good record at 386-233-85, one Stanley Cup championship, another trip to the championships, a President’s Trophy and seven straight playoffs. Although he has had all of these accomplishments, fans have always felt that the decisions he has made have negatively effected the team. Letting go of some key players, including Tyler Seguin and Johnny Boychuk is likely the way that the fans will always remember Chiarelli.
During his time with the Boston Bruins, Chiarelli also served as Assistant GM for the Gold Medal winning Team Canada at the 2014 Sochi Olympic Games. Jacobs and Neely will hold a press conference today at 3:00pm regarding Chiarelli’s firing.
