There was a scary moment for Boston Bruins fans while the Black and Gold played against the New York Rangers. Bruins lead goaltender Tuukka Rask took himself out of the game just ten seconds into the second period. At that point, Rask had stopped all fourteen shots on net, and the B’s were looking at a comfortable 3-0 nothing lead. The Bruins went on to win the game, 4-2.
Social media started firing up all the possible solutions, but it appears to be nothing more than a simple case of dehydration. Bruins bench boss Claude Julien confirmed the diagnosis after the game. Claude Julien, who has become rather infamous for not sharing medical information with the media (outside the ‘upper/lower body injury) said that Rask was doing alright.

“It looks like it might have been a case of dehydration, so he’s scheduled to travel with us,” said Julien. “He’s scheduled to be with us and he should be fine for . Yeah, we just found out at the beginning of the second,” Julien said. “He went in there and when he came off that’s why I went to him and said, ‘Are you still having those symptoms?’ He said, ‘Yeah,’ so I said, ‘Well, let’s get you out of here and put [Niklas Svedberg] in,’ who did a good job by the way.”
The Bruins pulled out a much needed win over the Rangers. The 4-2 win snapped the Bruins six game losing streak. These two crucial points give the Boston Bruins a slim one point lead over the Ottawa Senators for the final wild card spot in the Eastern Conference. With Rask’s sudden departure and Svedberg on the ice, the Boston Bruins drafted their goalie coach, Bob Essensa to be an emergency goaltender for the Bruins (They didn’t even have time to put his name on the back of his number seventy jersey.).

Svedberg did in fact play a solid game this afternoon. Niklas Svedberg made sixteen saves on eighteen shots in relief of Rask.
“You have to get ready right away, and it all happens pretty quick,” Svedberg said. “It’s all about trying to stay calm and focus on your game and get into the game as fast as possible. The guys helped me out a lot in the beginning, gave me some time to work myself into the game. And I thought after that we played a solid game throughout and I felt good too so good win for us.”
Rask is expected to travel with the team to tomorrow’s game against the Carolina Hurricanes. He’s currently listed as probable to be in net for the Bruins as they attempt to expand their lead and preserve their tenuous grasp over the Senators tomorrow.
