The Boston Bruins know they’re in trouble. The B’s dropped two very important points to the Ottawa Senators on Thursday. With that loss the Bruins gap to falling out of playoff contention fell to just two points. The Bruins know they dropped an important game, and they know they’ve got to win both games in the back-to-back this weekend.

“It’s disappointing. We didn’t take care of our zone in front of the net, and that’s where they got their goals and most of their chances,” said Patrice Bergeron. “They definitely did a better job than we did. When you score four goals that should be more than enough to win a game. We played into their hands, which they want to play that transition game. It’s not our game. We need to go back to playing tight defensively, and not trading off getting one chance for giving up one on the defensive side. We have a tough schedule going to Florida, so we have to bear down.”
The Bruins take on the Florida Panthers in the first game of the weekend. The Panthers are also gunning for the Bruins, being just five points back of the final playoff spot themselves. The Panthers are coming off a 3-1 win over the Detroit Red Wings (who are only four points ahead of the Bruins and have dropped their last two games.)
“We need to better than that, and we need to stick with what we do well,” said Torey Krug of the B’s recent lackluster play. “It’s about all about layers with us. They are there when we’re doing well, and it wasn’t there for us enough. You need to win games at this time of year to be successful, and that’s kind of the story.”

The Bruins then have to move across the state to take on the number two team in the East, the Tampa Bay Lightning. Steven Stamkos and company will certainly not make it easy on the B’s. If the Bruins wish to remain in playoff contention, then they need to play the type of hockey that we know they’re capable of playing. With a healthy David Krejci expected to be back in the lineup this weekend, the Bruins may be able to generate and maintain the momentum they will need in the post-season.
