Boston Bruins Throwback Thursday: David Krejci Scores First NHL Goal

On February 26, 2008, David Krejci scored his first official NHL goal against the Ottawa Senators in a 4-0 shutout. Although this was his first official goal, on February 19th of the same year, Krejci scored a goal during a shootout against the Carolina Hurricanes to help lead the Boston Bruins to victory.

Krejci finished out his first NHL year by notching a total of 6 goals and 27 points, not bad for a rookie. He has been recognized as one of the Bruins’ top scorers each year and continues to show why he is the top line center. In the 2008-09 season, Krejci had a career-high 73 points; he has been named to two Czech national Olympic teams, 2010 and 2014; he led the league in +/- in 2009; won the Boston Bruins’ Seventh Player Award, 2009; won the Golden Stick Award, 2013; and helped lead the Bruins to their 2011 Stanley Cup as the league’s overall post-season points leader with 12 goals, 11 assists and 4 game winning goals. That is an impressive list for a player that tends to fly under the radar as one of the best in the league.

After earning the Alternate Captain title in October 2013 and securing a six-year contract extension this past September, Krejci looks to be deepening the B’s lineup for the foreseeable future. However, after suffering a partially torn MCL last week in a game against the St. Louis Blues, the Bruins will have to hold onto their playoff spot while their top center sits on the sidelines. With an expected 4-6 week recover period, David Krejci should be reentering the lineup just in time to help lead the Boston Bruins through a successfully post-season – if they can start working together and notching some points.
