It’s pretty surreal.  We have to take a step back sometime, I can’t believe we raised this much money for shaving our heads.”-Shawn Thornton on the event last year.

An event originally brought to Boston by Aaron Ward and then taken over by Boston Bruins enforcer Shawn Thornton, Cuts For A Cause is making its’ eighth appearance for Bruins fans as Patrice Bergeron decides to take over and keep the tradition alive.

For those of you who are unfamiliar with the event, Cuts For A Cause is an annual auction that has members of the Boston Bruins team getting their heads shaved by their highest bidder (fans).  The proceeds benefit the Boston Bruins Foundation and Floating Hospital for Children at Tufts Medical Center.  Over the course of the past seven years, they have managed to raise over $360,000 with generally around 90% of the roster participating. Even players that didn’t participate in last years event still donated (Rask donated $5,000), earning $118,340, roughly $24,000 more than the previous year. While a full roster of participants has yet to be released for this year (it should be coming out by the end of the week), we can expect to see a similar turnout.

The Boston Bruins are always finding ways to interact with their fans and give back to the community they represent, whether it is Cuts For A Cause, Pucks and Pups, Golf Tournaments or a toy drive to hand out toys to children spending their holiday in the hospital, they are always involved.  In an earlier article I mentioned how they have an unbreakable bond with this city, believing in our causes and loving our city just as much as we do.  Cuts For A Cause is yet another example of a way that they are able to show us their dedication to not only us as their fans, but as their home community as well.
