After a disappointing six-game losing streak, the Boston Bruins finally turned their game around and took two points from one of the best teams in the league with a 6-2 win on Sunday. The game was the last leg of a five-game roadtrip and came at a crucial point. Hanging onto their playoff spot by a thread, the B’s had to notch the two points in order to stay in contention. Not only did they grab the two points, but they left everything out on the ice to show that they can still keep up with the big dogs.

“I think that you’ve got to create your own confidence and believe in yourself. It’s not always easy, it’s challenging, it’s a long season, you’ve just got to stick with it and keep pushing.” – Zdeno Chara

Dominant Defense

Throughout the month of February, one of the areas that was lacking was defense. The blueliners were making sloppy plays, turning over the puck and not blocking shots. Against the Hawks – one of the best offensive lines in the league – the defense was on point. Led by their ace in the net, Tuukka Rask – who stopped 28 of 30 shots against – the  defensive line worked together to ensure that they could get out of their slump. Dougie Hamilton really stepped up his game and tallied a goal and a +2 rating. Adam McQuaid showed his team spirit by dropping the gloves against Daniel Carcillo and brought even more momentum to the team. Overall, it was a positive showing by the defense that brings hope that they can continue on an uphill path.
