Boston Bruins Friday Feature: Smith Fans, Krug Scores

Disappointing loss is a phrase that Bruins nation has become all too familiar with over the past few weeks. Winning only one of the last seven games, the Boston Bruins have been painful to watch. Possibly the most difficult to stomach recently, is their 3-4 loss to the Calgary Flames after taking an early 3-0 lead. Although there were a few standout plays in this game that gave all fans and the coaching staff hope for a positive turnaround, the B’s chocked in the end.

More from Causeway Crowd

One shining moment that came out of the loss to Calgary is the featured play of the week. After scoring twice in the first period, the Bruins headed into the second period looking strong. 50 seconds into the period, they looked even better. Reilly Smith had a perfect opportunity to land the puck in the net from the slot, but fanned on the shot. Luckily, Torey Krug was there to support his teammate. He swept the loose puck up, maneuvered past Flames defenseman Kris Russell and backhanded the puck into the net to take a 3-0 lead. It was the type of play that showcases Krug’s amazing defensive and offensive skills.

Honorable Mentions

Tuuka Rask’s Stellar Shootout Performance: In yet another disappointing loss – to the Edmonton Oilers!!! – the Bruins headed into a shootout looking to take 2 points. Tuukka Rask held on for an impressive 11 rounds blocking each shot that went his way. Unfortunately, his teammates couldn’t land a shot against Ben Scrivens and in the 12th round Oilers defenseman Marincin was able to get one passed Rask for the win.

Bergeron’s Magical Powers: At 12:05 of the third period, Patrice Bergeron was called on a phantom high stick. Either Bergeron is able to use some magical powers to knock someone out without any contact or Edmonton forward Nail Yakupov was taking embellishment to the next level.
