Too Many Free Agents, Not Enough Salary Cap

This upcoming offseason, the Bruins’ coaching staff and leadership will be making some really difficult decisions – and some no-brainers as well. Campbell, Paille, Soderberg, McQuaid and Bartkowski are all UFAs and Smith, Caron, Cunningham, Krug, Hamilton and Svedberg are all RFAs. With little salary to work with, keeping all of the players is going to be impossible.

If they were to make a move now, this might make the decisions a lot easier to make this summer. Finding a good player that comes at a cheap cost like a pick, a prospect and possible a roster toss-in – Caron would fit in wonderfully with any team – would be a good choice for the Bruins to make at this time. Another option, would be to make a huge, blockbuster deal that comes out of left field, but frees up some salary space. A big shake-up to the roster might be exactly what the team needs to get their heads in the game and start winning some points.

Even the Bruins’ players know that the way they have been playing is not going to lead to a productive post-season, if they even make it at all.

More from Causeway Crowd

“At the end of the day, we’re the only ones that can correct it and we need to, in order to have any chance at the postseason.” Chris Kelly

“Those mistakes we did in our own zone – can’t do that in peewee hockey, let alone in the NHL.” Tuukka Rask

No matter what move they decide to make they need to do it soon and make it count if they want to be a cup contender this year and for years to come.
