First Period

The Boston Bruins came out of the locker room with a lot of energy and the desire to get on the board first. As they moved the puck around and generated momentum, things started working in Boston’s favor.

At the 4:00 mark, Patrice Bergeron was able to knock in a rebound off of a shot that initially came from Dougie Hamilton.  Bergeron got the rebound from the bottom of the circle earning himself his 11th goal of the season.

Decision making in the neutral zone allowed the Rangers to be able to get some momentum going in their favor as Lee Stempniak got behind the defense on a partial breakaway before getting stoned by Rask.

Carl Hagelin rang the puck off the post after a 3-on-2.  The Rangers speed seems to be an issue through the first period for the Bruins.

Gregory Campbell with a big, full-body hit knocking down both Marc Staal and JT Miller.

Loui Eriksson  with just over 30 seconds on the clock picked up a rebound and attempted to bury it behind Talbot.

After one, the Bruins own the shots on net 13 – 7 and the scoreboard 1 -0.

First Period Summary:

The Boston Bruins came out of the locker room with momentum and energy ready to make themselves known.  Despite getting on the board early on in the frame, the Rangers speed seemed to slow them down and become an issue.  Tuukka Rask made some key saves to keep the Bruins confidence and score in tact. Through the second period the Bruins are going to have to find the same momentum they started with and keep it through the duration of the game.

DECISION ON DAVID PASTRNAK

David Pastrnak is staying for a while, they are committing to having him play with Boston.

I feel he has done very well with his apprenticeship with Providence. He went down there and did what we told him to do which was play without the puck, heavier play against the defensive wall, offensive battles. In making this decision we really scrutinized his play in Providence and felt that he was able to play and excel at that level with the  proper physicality for him against he proper physicality hes going to be up here and we are happy to make that decision we are going to continue to look at it as a development piece.” – GM Peter Chiarelli
