Overtime
Boston Bruins once again opt to go three forwards and one defenseman. Patrice Bergeron, Brad Marchand, Torey Krug and Daniel Paille the first shift.
Dougie Hamilton, Zdeno Chara, Milan Lucic and David Krejci the next line out or the Bruins as the face off is in front of Rask and both Jordan and Eric Staal are put on the ice for Carolina.
Not-So-Fun Fact: Bruins had seven forwards without a single shot on goal through regulation. Not acceptable.
Nathan Gerbe came in on Rask tight but the Boston netminder laid out flat across the crease and somehow kept it out with a little help from Marchand. On the next shift Patrice Bergeron attempted a backhand shot on Khudobin but the shot went wide.
With 1:03 Victor Rask and Reilly Smith go to the penalty box for holding (Smith) and embellishment (Rask) finishing the overtime 3-on-3. Bruins opt to go Krejci, Krug and Marchand against the Staal brothers.
The Boston Bruins had some nice pressre through the end of the overtime period, but were unable to convert on anything. Hopefully one-on-one against a former teammate they will have better luck.
Shootout
BOSTON SHOOTERS: Reilly Smith, Torey Krug, Patrice Bergeron
CAROLINA SHOOTERS(Opted to shoot first):Chris Terry, Jeff Skinner, Eric Staal
Chris Terry walked in on Rask and fanned on the puck unable to get a shot off.
Reilly Smith up for Boston first, tried to go five-hole on Khudobin and he shut the door.
Jeff Skinner went in wide on Rask, tried to place the puck stick-side high and Rask got a piece sending it high off the plexi-glass.
Torey Krug took a serpentine route and snapped a quick release glove-side but it went over the cross bar.
Eric Staal accelerated towards Rask and used his extende reach to flip the puck over the right pad of Rask to go up 1-0 in the shooutout.
Patrice Bergeron the last shooter up for the Bruins and he gets stoned by Khudobin who didn’t give up anything.
Once again the Boston Bruins left points on the table, took 2 out of a possible 4 from the weekend. Pretty sure it is safe to say that the flight home will be one filled with anxiety and quietness after this loss.
