Third Period
“Just keep playing the same way, put the puck in deep and keep working their D.”David Krejci on what the Boston Bruins need to do to keep the momentum going into the third period.
During the intermission David Krejci’s second goal was changed and credited to Torey Krug, giving him the tying goal with helpers from Carl Soderberg and Loui Eriksson. His feed towards the net went off of Toronto defenseman Polak’s stick, Holzer’s skate and Komarov before it went behind Jonathan Bernier.
The Boston Bruins would catch a break as the third period began, winding up on a power play as Van Riemsdyk went to the box for slashing. The Bruins were able to enter the zone with speed, but Bernier stood tall against David Krejci as he blasted a shot against him. As the penalty expired Brad Marchand was able to make it to the right circle and feed the puck in front for Chara above the crease unable to get a shot.
The Lucic-Krejci-Griffith line came into the third period ready to play, bringing all of the emotion from the second period into the third. They are generating chances, winning battles and dominating every shift.
Dougie Hamilton with a blast with 2:39 left in the game that Bernier gets a piece of and it goes up and out of play. The Bruins have done a really nice job keeping the pressure and intensity through the entire third period.
In the final minute Milan Lucic, Torey Krug and Dougie Hamilton all blast rockets at Bernier but are unable to convert sending the game into overtime.
Third Period Summary:
The Boston Bruins came into the third period carrying over the emotion and energy they had to end the second and were able to hold onto it through the duration of the final period. They showed desperation and integrity on all levels as well as put forward a strong defensive front. Their speed allowed them to generate offensive opportunities and keep the momentum going in their favor. Chris Kelly played perhaps his best game of the season despite being relatively quiet on the score sheet, he was relentless on the puck and never gave up. Heading into overtime the Bruins need to keep the momentum and energy going in their favor.
