The Boston Bruins played an outstanding game the day after spending the afternoon with all their fans at Cuts For A Cause. Patrice Bergeron put in two goals for the Black and Gold in a 3-0 shutout of the Chicago Blackhawks. A shutout win is special enough, but that it was done so against a team as good as Chicago. The Bruins also played their hearts out for two Boston Fire Department firemen who were killed in the line of duty in a Beacon Street fire not far from where Cuts For A Cause was going on. With two goals in thirteen seconds, the Bruins may have finally expunged the curse that hit them in game six of the Stanley Cup Finals last year.

The Chicago Blackhawks and their fan base have been profoundly supportive (once again) to the city of Boston when it incurs a tragedy like it did yesterday. While the Boston Bruins may have won, a solid *stick tap* has to go out to a classy Blackhawks organization and to 99.5% of their fanbase. Here’s their thoughts on the game. (Chicago Blackhawks)

I leave this to Patrice Bergeron to describe why the First Star of the Night Honors went to the Boston Fire Department instead of him. “We feel like we are part of the community now as a whole and it was an important game, we thought, for us to win for all of them,” Bergeron said. “They put their lives at risk and obviously with what happened, our thoughts and prayers are with their families. Like I said, you never want to hear that. They are the heroes and we’re just here to — it puts things in perspective, I guess, if I want to put it that way. Tonight was well-deserved first star.” (NESN)

For all those Montreal fans that spewed insults after the shootout loss, I’d like to remind them that the Bruins are a fourteen game point streak and are now fifteen points ahead of them in the Atlantic Division. For a lot of Habs fans, it’s been a long time since they’ve enjoyed the reverse (or the Cup for that matter).

To cap off the night, it’s always great to see Tuukka have a great game in the pipes. It’s even cooler when he helps a special young lady make her wish come true. Tuukka had some special assistance in net during practice, and this is why I love the Bruins the way I do. (ESPN)
