Zdeno Chara(33) reacts after scoring a goal in the first period against the Florida Panthers at the BB
I was at work today while our Boston Bruins were down south in the sunshine playing the Florida Panthers, so I wasn’t able to catch the whole game.
Thankfully my place of employment involves hockey and Bruins games are shown on a pretty sweet flat-screen television and played over the speakers.
It was a busy day today but I just happened to stop in front of the TV for a second when I noticed Brad Marchand racing down the ice with the puck. He then stopped on a dime before running out of real estate and hesitated a couple times before sending a backhand pass over to Bruins captain Zdeno Chara.
Big-Z had to reach back for it with a reach that only he has and while doing it he was able to spin around Panthers rookie sensation Jonathan Huberdeau. He wasn’t done there however.
Chara then kept the puck out of the reach of Panthers center Stephen Weiss and was finally able to finish the play with a pretty backhand shot over goaltender Jacob Markstrom‘s shoulder.
Watch for yourself if my awesome play-by-play wasn’t good enough or if you just haven’t seen it yet:
Wow, check out the footwork on the big man. Like Jack Edwards exclaimed, “Six-nine and he’s a ballerina!”
At 6’9″ he’s the tallest person to ever play in the NHL and with goals like this its easy to see why he has a Norris Trophy and a Stanley Cup to his name. Chara has played well all season and once again helped to keep the good times rolling for the Bruins.
They went on to win the game 4-1 and moved to 11-2-2 on the season.
