Boston Bruins forward Peter Cehlarik made a solid first impression in his two debut games. He’s the ninth player to make his NHL debut for Boston this season.

Boston Bruins forward Peter Cehlarik made his NHL debut this week. He played in two games  against the Vancouver Canucks and Montreal Canadiens. During that time, he put up two assists for the Black and Gold, and made an excellent first impression with his performance.

The Bruins 2013 third-round pick played two strong games for the Black and Gold, earning his first NHL points on the second line.  The 21-year old Slovakian found himself put in the thick of things early, playing with David Krecji and David Pastrnak. The young forward also got to see time on the Bruins second power play unit.

Cehlarik’s first NHL point came when fired a pass through Montreal players to find Adam McQuaid coming down the left side.  McQuaid’s back door goal gave the Bruins and early 1-0 lead.

Cehlarik’s second point in the came when the young forward sent a pass to David Backes who was deep in the Habs defensive zone. Backes sent it over to David Krejci who put it in for a power play goal late in the second. It was the eighth straight game where the Bruins have been able to capitalize while on the man advantage.

The young Bruins forward made a solid impression on the fans. The only reason why Cehlarik was sent down to Providence was because the AHL Providence Bruins don’t have a bye week. It made more sense to give Cehlarik more ice time, and to do that he’d have to play AHL hockey.

He also impressed Bruins interim head coach Bruce Cassidy.

“He has the hockey IQ and the hands, big enough body guy,” said Cassidy of the Cehlarik after the Bruins outstanding 4-0 win over the Canadiens on Sunday night. “You just don’t know when they come up – if they can handle the pace, the pressure, time and space issues. So far, so good.”

The young Slovak did a solid job playing top-six time in Boston. With all the tweaks being done under Bruce Cassiday, there were a few that could have caused concerns. Cehlarik was one of them. Cehlarik went out there are wiped away those concerns by playing good hockey with some of the best players on the team .

“It’s good for him, obviously very happy,” shared Krejci. “He’s been playing really well…he makes lots of good plays out there. It’s fun to play with him.”

“I’m really grateful to have the opportunity to play with those kind of players that I play with,” said Cehlarik about his first two NHL games. “I want to make it count and I want to fit there. So I think we’re playing pretty well, hopefully we are going to keep going.”
