Don Sweeney and the Boston Bruins have one last meeting with former Harvard hockey star Jimmy Vesey tomorrow.

The Boston Bruins are the last team that are going to interview Vesey. The Bruins are going to take Vesey, his agent (and likely his family) to the new practice rink in Brighton. There Bruins GM Don Sweeney will do all he can to make sure Vesey stays in the Boston area.

Thankfully, Don Sweeney seems prepared for Vesey.  On the money end, Sweeney has the available cap space to off Vesey a maximum entry-level deal. He’s also got enough cap squirreled away to off him the highest amount allowed for bonuses (signing and performance).

Jimmy Vesey is looking for top-six minutes. The Bruins could juggle their roster enough to give him those minutes.  Vesey would be outstanding on a line with Patrice Bergeron and Brad Marchand. If they developed chemistry quickly, the B’s could put up more goals and rely a little less on defense.

The Bruins haven’t done enough to fix their defensive problems as of yet, and they may have no choice to ‘go big or go home’ on offense next season. Vesey would certainly help out in that regard.

Several teams had their chance to sell Vesey on Tuesday.  On Wednesday, the Boston Bruins will attempt to sell last year’s Hobey Baker Award winner on staying in Boston. Vesey finished up four seasons playing for Harvard, and seems to want to play close to home.

Vesey wants to play close to home. He politely rebuffed the Detroit Red Wings because of that. While some local media believe that the Bruins have no chance of grabbing the 23-year old Vesey, the Bruins and him could easily come to terms and suddenly become the big winner in this year’s free agency frenzy.
