Boston Bruins prospect Danton Heinen has been working hard to make a good impression with the Bruins front office.

Heinen came to this year’s camp to build on his collegiate success. He had a strong season at the University of Denver last year. He put up 45 points in Denver. 16 of those points were goals, five of which were on the power play and four of them were game winners. Heinen was happy to share the credit for his college success with his teammates and his coaches.

“I think I had some good linemates there back in Denver and I got a lot of opportunity,” said Heinen during the B’s camp last week. “Coach put me in some good spots to succeed, so I think a little bit of both of those.”

The 21-year old center was regarded as one of the top players playing at this year’s development camp. Heinen will now progress on to training camp, where he hopes to compete for an opening night spot. It’s highly unlikely, but stranger things have happened.  If Heinen can prove to the front office he’s ready to play professional hockey, he could likely end up in Providence this season.

“They’ll [Heinen and fellow prospect Brandon Carlo] have ample opportunity come September, you know go through Rookie Camp and into main camp and see who emerges as being able to push,” said Bruins general manager Don Sweeney, according to the Boston Bruins website. . “But we’re excited about where they are at this point in time.”

Heinen was selected by the Boston Bruins in the fourth round of the 2014 NHL Entry Draft.

“There’s so many great hockey minds here that have played a lot or coached a lot,” said Heinen of his most recent camp.  “So I’m trying to soak everything up and learn as much as possible and keep taking those things back and using those.” This is the second straight year he’s been able to attend.

Heinen got his first taste of professional play last season. He got to play in two games at the end of the regular season, and two first-round playoff games. In his four games with the Providence Bruins, Heinen was able to tally two assists for the baby Bruins.

The forward signed a three-year entry-level contract with the Bruins back in April.  Heinen wants to leave it all on the ice and play his best for the Black and Gold.

“I’m just going to try and have a big summer,” said Heinen. “Come in and do everything I can, do everything that they ask from me and show them as much as I can.”
