Boston Bruins: Brad Marchand Wins Gold Medal At IIHF World Hockey Championships With Canada After Posting Career-High Totals In Goals And Points In The NHL This Season

Brad Marchand will certainly wear the black and gold next season, but the gold will be more emphasized than ever before.

Marchand will return to the Boston Bruins next season with some extra hardware on his mantle. Brad Marchand was one of the bright spots of a second-consecutive season without a playoff berth for the Bruins, and he’ continued his impressive break-out year by winning the gold medal at the IIHF World Hockey Championships as a part of the Canadian National team.

The Canadians were dominant throughout the tournament after suffering only one loss in the tournament to the Finnish National team. They got their vengeance just two games later, however, as they beat Finland by a score of 2-0 to claim their second consecutive gold medal at the tournament.

Brad Marchand finished the tournament with four goals and three assists for seven points in 10 games in the tournament. Brad Marchand is widely considered to be one of the players on the bubble for making Canada’s roster for the World Cup of Hockey which will start in September, and after his strong showing at the World Championships, it will be hard to deny him his rightful place on the team.

Brad Marchand enjoyed one of the best years of his career this year. Despite the lack of a playoff opportunity, scoring a career-high 37 goals and 60 points while also getting the opportunity to play for, and win a gold medal with Canada has to be up there as career highlights for the little ball of hate.

The 2016-17 season is currently set to be a contract year for Brad Marchand, but it wouldn’t be surprising to see the Bruins lock him up sooner rather than later. Marchand will command a very significant increase on his current $4,500,000 salary, but given the fact that he’s still only 28 years old, it shouldn’t be too difficult for him or the Bruins to work out a long-term deal.
