Boston Bruins: Brad Marchand and Brendan Gallagher Threaten Each Other On Twitter During Their Run As Teammates On Team Canada At The IIHF World Hockey Championships

It would seem that old habits die hard, even when representing Canada as teammates at the IIHF World Hockey championships. On May 9th 2016, Brendan Gallagher and Brad Marchand exchanged tweets that exemplified exactly what one might expect when looking at the rivalry between the Boston Bruins and Montreal Canadiens.

Brendan Gallagher took the first shot when he stated “I’ll jump @bmarch63 when he’s not looking.” This isn’t entirely surprising as both Brendan Gallagher and Brad Marchand play a specific style of hockey that typical irks their opponents. Brad Marchand made it known that he wouldn’t be outdone in this situation, and he tweeted out “I’ll run @BGally17 form behind in practice tomorrow”.

One might think that while playing for Team Canada, an undefeated squad at the World Championships who is seemingly coasting by their competition with ease, that their NHL rivalry could be put on hold. Anyone that assumed that would be the case, would actually be correct.

The two tweets that were sent out by both Brad Marchand and Brendan Gallagher were sent in an attempt to help out fellow-Team Canada player and Edmonton Oiler forward Connor McDavid in an attempt to become the NHL 17 cover-vote winner.

It’s always fun to see “bitter-rivals” have fun and put aside their differences outside of the hockey season. These tweets provide perspective to the hockey world that despite playing on rival teams in rival cities, the game of hockey is something that they all enjoy, and they’re all still human beings outside of the sport. While they may be enjoying each other’s company now as teammates, however, it’s still likely that these two will find themselves in scraps in the near future when the Boston Bruins and Montreal Canadiens square off next season.
