Boston Bruins: David Krejci Will Undergo Off-Season Hip Surgery To Repair Damage Suffered During The Year

As the Boston Bruins season comes to a close, an off-season of uncertainty will be starting. One thing that is certain, however, is that Bruins’ center David Krejci will be undergoing off-season hip surgery. Krejci made it known on Monday that he was playing in the final quarter of the Bruins season with a hip injury and this surgery would be to correct it ahead of training camp and the 2016-17 season.

“It’s been bothering me for 20 or so games,” Krejci said. “But we have a good medical staff here, and they got me through games, so I felt like I was still in decent shape to play games and help the team, and there’s been games where I’ve felt pretty good. So I was able to finish the season (and would have been) ready to play playoff games.”

It’s no secret that David Krejci has dealt with injury troubles in the last few year, most recently missing close to a month with a shoulder injury which forced him to miss the NHL Winter Classic. David Krejci found himself leading the NHL in points early on in the season before suffering his injuries which led to him only scoring six goals in his last 37 games. Krejci was still producing points, however, as he was able to post 24 assists after returning from his injury which led him to finish tied for second with Loui Eriksson for team scoring with 63 points.

“I’m looking at it kind of two ways,” Krejci said. “One is, yeah, it’s been a nagging injury from last year and missing that half a season. And then this year, I felt maybe the best I ever felt my first 50 games, and then I missed some games because of my shoulder injury, and after I came back, it was never the same.”

Krejci also specified that surgery wasn’t a spur-of-the-moment decision.

“And the hip, the nagging injury kind of kept coming back, and it got to the point that we’ve been talking surgery for a while now. So it was frustrating, but at the same time, I had this surgery about six years ago on my other leg and never felt better (than I did) after it. I’m looking forward to getting it done in the next week or two and be the player that I can be.”

David Krejci stated that the recovery period for this off-season surgery should last approximately four months. “Yeah, if everything goes like it should, then I should be back even before camp,” Krejci said. The Bruins will have an off-season of uncertainty, but David Krejci should focus on getting healthy to start the year.
