Boston Bruins Can Make Playoffs Without Help From Other Teams As The Regular Season Winds Down

The Boston Bruins have fallen into a major slump at the worst possible time. With the regular season ending soon and the playoffs right around the corner, it’s all hands on deck for the Bruins right now. Regardless of the Bruins’ deficiencies, or the fact that they are still missing some pieces on their team such as Chris Kelly, Dennis Seidenberg, and Brett Connolly due to injury, they will need to give it their all in the final week of the season to show what they can do.

The Boston Bruins are in control of their own destiny. If the Bruins win their final three games, they will qualify for the post-season. The task isn’t too daunting as two of the three teams that the Bruins are set to face this week are out of the playoff picture, starting with the Carolina Hurricanes and and ending with the Ottawa Senators. The game that should give the Bruins’ the biggest challenge should be the match-up in the middle against the Detroit Red Wings. The Red Wings are currently one point ahead of the Boston Bruins in the Atlantic division and the race will come down to those teams in the Atlantic as well as the New York Islanders and Philadelphia Flyers in the Wildcard race.

The Boston Bruins could make the playoffs with other potential combinations of events, but the point is clear; the Bruins should not be depending on others teams to get them into the playoffs this time around. “How many times have teams been in the playoff race and they’re looking at the out-of-town scores and hoping?” Bruins’ forward Chris Kelly said. “We don’t have to do that. We just need to focus on Carolina tomorrow: have a good game, and go on from there. You can’t win all three games tomorrow night. We need to win the first one and then move on.”

The Bruins missed the playoffs for the first time in nearly 10 years last season, and a repeat miss of the playoffs will undoubtedly cause backlash from the Bruins management team. Despite how successful head coach Claude Julien has been with the Boston Bruins, his time in Boston could come to an end with a missed playoff bid once again.

Claude Julien doesn’t seem to be worrying too much about the possibility of the Bruins missing the playoffs, however. In fact, he’s not even looking past the Bruins’ next game. “We know we’ve got a big week ahead of us,” Julien said. “All we’ve got to do is win our games and we’re in. Our focus has to be on that, and that’s what we’re going to do this week. One game at a time.”

David Krejci weighed in on the Bruins current situation as well.

"“Three to go, and if we want all three of them then we’re in no matter what Detroit is going to do,” Krejci said. “That’s a good thing. We just have to take it one at a time now. It’s been a couple of years since we’ve been in (the playoffs). It’s the best part of the season (and) it’s the best part of hockey. So it would be nice to be there battling for the prize at the end.”"

Krejci also said

"“It’s in our hands, so we just need to take it one game at a time and go get it. We just need to go out there play our game, control what we can control and not worry about other things. We just need to go out there and play our best. The biggest we need to do is to not look ahead, and just stay in the moment.”"

The Bruins can make the playoffs, but their will and determination will be the deciding factor. The post-season is within reach, and it’s time for the Bruins to grab it and fight until the very last second of the very last game. The Bruins take on Carolina on Tuesday and anything but a near-perfect game will be nothing short of disappointing for the city of Boston.
