Boston Bruins David Pastrnak Has Found Chemistry

David Pastrnak is in his second year with the Boston Bruins at the young age of 19. At 19 years old he is still developing as an NHL player as the average player does not hit their prime until 25-28 years old as far as peak performances. The last four games Pastrnak has scored 4 goals and is showing that he could be one of the difference makers for this Bruins team down the stretch as they enter the playoffs in a couple of weeks.

But the last few games he has played with fellow Czech David Krejci and it seems as if they have developed the chemistry that Pastrnak so desperately needs to encourage his development into a star.

Pastrnak scored both the game winner and the insurance goal in his two goal outing against the Islanders on Saturday in a 3-1 win. One of the key things in hockey and on this Bruins team in particular is line chemistry, Pastrnak who has been bouncing from line to line since entering the league last year was having difficulty gaining chemistry. But the last few games he has played with fellow Czech David Krejci and it seems as if they have developed the chemistry that Pastrnak so desperately needs to encourage his development into a star.

The chemistry that has been created between him and Krejci is almost as important to Krejci who has missed his long time line mate Milan Lucic who was traded to the LA Kings in the off season. With his new found chemistry and his hockey IQ rising Pastrnak is now getting crunch time minutes late in the third period when the games are on the line. It is nice to see head coach Claude Julian give Pastrnak crunch time minutes, it shows that Claude has trust and confidence that Pastrnak will make the right decisions and handle himself in his own end of the ice.

More from Causeway Crowd

Pastrnak’s recent success does have it’s downs as in yesterdays game he had a team high six turnovers. This has been his main issue since entering the league, giving phenomenal flashes of offensive greatness then switching into a mistake either on defense or turning the puck over in key situations. But what many fail to comprehend is that he is only 19 years old. I remember just several years ago another young budding star that was consistently trashed by the Boston media and fans for not playing defense or not scoring in the playoffs to be more specific. That player was Tyler Seguin. Seguin was traded away before he even reached his prime, scary thing is he might not even be at it now.

Pastrnak may not have had the playoff chances that Seguin had, but still you can see fans and media not happy with some of the mistakes that Pastrnak makes. He is 19 and is still several years away from reaching his full potential. Claude Julian understands the problems that Pastrnak can create but he will take the good and the bad as he explains in this quote.

"“[Pastrnak] is coming along in the way that you guys are seeing him. I guess I can’t define and say he’s great, he’s poor, whatever. There are definitely areas when you look at his game such as tonight, he was really good for us. We all see and people who know the game will also see where there are areas he has to improve,” said Julien. “He’s got to get stronger on the puck and not turn them over as much as he does. It’s going to happen in the game but it’s about playing the clock as well, looking where you are. If you are up by one goal in your last few minutes and can’t afford big turnovers, it’s about making the right decision. So it’s about playing the game the proper way at the right time and to me [Pastrnak] is learning that part of it. Tonight I thought he was better than he had been some of these other nights there where I had to take some of his ice time away. But he’s learning and we are going to stick with him, and continue to give him opportunities to get better.” –Claude Julian"

The main reason why the Boston Bruins will stick with Pastrnak is the reason that was on showcase Saturday afternoon, it is the chemistry that he has developed with David Krejci as explained in the quote below by David Pastrnak

"“I’m going to say this every time: Krech [David Krejci] is an unbelievable player, and you know he’s going to find me in every position. For me, it’s just a pleasure to play with those guys, and you know I’m really enjoying and trying to do my best for [Krejci],” said Pastrnak. “It’s really hard to tell, I’m just happy I’m in the line.“I’m just trying to focus on getting better. You know it’s a lot of stuff to improve for me you know I’m still young, I’m learning, and trying to learn from the guys like Krech [David Krejci], Bergy [Patrice Bergeron], you know Loui [Eriksson] and the older guys with much experience. I think with the more experience I can have, the better player I’ll be.” – David Pastrnak"

This incredible development in chemistry can be the key to the Bruins success come play off time and really help solidify the Bruins top 6. Pastrnak at 19 years old is an impact player on this team and if the Bruins make a deep run this playoff season, don’t be shocked it is on a goal from winger David Pastrnak.
