Boston Bruins forward Brad Marchand made a little bit of history tonight at TD Garden. The white-hot winger put his ninth goal in nine games to give the Bruins a 2-1 overtime win against the Buffalo Sabres. If you want to see it once again, here is this filthy beauty in all its glory.

Marchand played the puck brilliantly. He came down the ice and got Sabres goaltender Robin Lehner to go with the fake not once, but twice. Then he put it up high glove side on Lehner. That gave Marchand his team high 24th goal of the season. He’s on pace for a personal best 39 goal season this year, and that would be a fantastic accomplishment for a player who started on the fourth line as a supplementary agitator just fives seasons ago.

Marchand made history tonight by being the first Bruin in their 92-year history to be awarded a penalty shot in overtime. By putting that goal in the crease, it gives the 27-year old Halifax native another sentence in the Bruins history book.

“I feel pretty good,” shared Marchand with the media after tonight’s win. “I feel like I’m trying things that I probably shouldn’t at times, and they work out, and that’s sometimes how it goes when things are kind of going your way – whether or not it feels like you can’t do anything right.

“Again, I’ve said this before: It’s about staying even-keeled and trying to prepare the same way every night and knowing that if you play the right way and the right game, then it’s going to benefit you more than not.”

Once again, the Boston Bruins didn’t play their best against one of the teams sitting at the bottom of the division. They had to rely on scoring from Loui Eriksson to get them into the game, and another solid performance by goaltender Tuukka Rask to keep them in it.

With tonight’s win, the Bruins hold steady in the Atlantic Division, being tied for second with the Tampa Bay Lightning. It also gives the Bruins a solid fifth place position in the Eastern Conference.
