Boston Bruins forward and alternate captain Patrice Bergeron has been named to the the 2016 NHL All-Star Team.  Bergeron has been a staple of the Black and Gold during his 11-year, 778 NHL game career, putting up 587 points(221 goals) for Boston. This will be his second selection as a NHL All-Star.

Patrice Bergeron has been the heart and soul of the organization for years now. When Zdeno Chara steps down at the end of his career, it’s all but a given that the ‘C’ will pass to Bergeron. His nickname to many in the Boston media is ‘Rafters’ as it is very unlikely that anyone in Boston will ever wear number 37 again once Bergeron retires.

The 2015-16 season has been another good one for the Quebec native. In the 38 games Bergeron has played, he’s currently tied for first in goals with 15 (with Brad Marchand), tied for first in assists with 22 (with David Krejci), and leads all Bruins in scoring with 37 points.

Bergeron was part of the 2011 Stanley Cup team. He won the NHL Foundation Player Award in 2014, and was last year’s winner of the Selke Trophy for being the league’s top defensive forward. (He also won it last year, and has won it three out of the last four years, making people wonder when and not if there will be a NHL Bergeron Award one of these days.) He also has a pair of Olympic gold medals for Team Canada.

Bergeron will be part of the Atlantic Division team this year, as the divisions play a round-robin of 3-on-3 games to determine the best division in the league. Bergeron’s team will be captained by the immortal (and fellow former Bruin) Jaromir Jagr. The Atlantic Division team will be coached by Florida Panthers’ head coach Gerard Gallant.
