Boston Bruins Recall Alexander Khokhlachev From Providence

The Boston Bruins have been off to a strong start this season. After a rough three game start, the Bruins have gone 6-0-1 in their last seven games. The Black and Gold have the strongest offense in the NHL (3.9 goals per game), and they’re looking to get even stronger. This morning, the Bruins recalled their top scoring forward from the B’s Providence affiliate, Alexander Khokhlachev.

The Bruins called up their 22-year old Russian forward to replace David Pastrnak. Pastrnak was not part of this morning’s line rushes. It looks like the young Czech forward is still not at one hundred percent from blocking a shot with his foot last week.

The Bruins may decide to give the speedy Russian his shot tonight against the Dallas Stars. If so, he’ll likely be seeing top-six time right out of the barn. Khokhlachev was on the right wing of the David Krejci line during this morning’s practice.

Early in the season, Khokhlachev was rather exasperated about staying in Providence. “This is my last year of contract. I’m 22 already. If they don’t give me the chance to play, why am I here? I will not play in Providence all my life,” said the young Russian forward to the media last month. “They told me just wait for your chance and I’m still waiting for that.

“I played in Providence two years and was the leading scorer for two years. I think I played good, and I’m not a young guy anymore, 22. I think I’m ready for the chance.”

Khokhlachev’s rights in the KHL were recently transferred, and that certainly put the Bruins on notice. If Khokhlachev has a solid season, and can perform as the unofficial fourteenth forward, then the Bruins organization will have a rough decision ahead of them at the end of the season.

He’s been hoping for a chance to crack into the Boston roster. Currently, he’s the hottest scoring forward for the Providence Bruins at the moment, and his speed and his shot will certainly be an asset for the Bruins as they take on the high-flying and equally explosive Dallas Stars.
