Boston Bruins: Bruins Abroad

Max Talbot is certainly a character. The Boston Bruins picked him up at the trade deadline last season in order to help fill holes in the roster. He brings the French-Canadian swagger of Patrice Bergeron, and the anything-goes honesty of Shawn Thornton. Well, Talbot took his mouth on the road to his home stomping grounds of Quebec Province. He infiltrated the home of our enemy, and interviewed every day folks on the main drag of Montreal. He grabbed the opinion of several dozen fans under the guise of ‘Tim The Reporter’.

Montreal and Boston have a rivalry that can easily compete with the Yankees and the Red Sox. (Those fans called Talbot (and the Bruins) several unflattering names to ‘Tim’ all the while never realizing they were bad mouthing one of the newer Bruins, and a native son of Quebec. ‘Disgrace’, ‘Traitor’, and other unsavory words were slung at ‘Tim’, and all the while Talbot sat there taking it all in with a bemused grin on his face.

Talbot is clearly enjoying this. He hasn’t had this much fun with the Bruins since Ryan Spooner asked him for some fashion advice.

Boston Bruins captain Zdeno Chara is home in his native Slovakia. Once again, Slovakia is honored to have Lord Stanley’s hardware on its soil. This time around, the day with the Cup belonged to Chicago Blackhawks winger Marian Hossa. Hossa invited Chara over for his Stanley Cup party (as Chara did to him back in 2011), and a real cool hockey moment took place. They were joined by Los Angeles Kings winger (and fellow Slovak), and a rather outstanding picture was taken.

That’s an awful lot of history there (not to mention a few Stanley Cup rings). It looks like both Gaborik and Chara were wise to stay away from the Cup this time. (As both the Bruins and Kings were among the last teams to fail to make the playoffs last season.)

Finally Brett Connolly is back home in Toronto. Connolly certainly doesn’t look like he should be the same age as Tyler Seguin, but he is. Connolly was getting ready for this season as well, and he passed on a little bit of wisdom (not bad for 23) to a few kids playing in the park.

“For me, I just played the game; I loved the game,” said Connolly to the kids (and Boston Bruins.com). “I was always practicing. I was always working on things, and I was always playing, and I think my advice would just be: Any time you have a chance to go and get better and play with your buddies when you’re younger, those are the fun times.

“Those are kind of the times when you can improve on things, and I would just say whenever you get a chance to play, just go play.”
