facebooktwitterreddit

The more you look at things, the more you have to be thankful that the newest members of the Bruins organization are genuinely happy to be here. Sure, every new player offers up the platitudes that they’re “Excited to be in (insert city).”, or “I’m thrilled to be playing for (insert team).”. But the Bruins newest acquisitions seemed genuinely thrilled to be part of the Boston community and the Bruins organization.

  • Look at Matt Beleskey. He changed his team picture on his Twitter account minutes after the move was announced. Since he’s come to Boston, he’s been putting up pictures of himself and his wife in Boston. He brings the honesty of Shawn Thornton and the smart snarl of Andrew Ference (two men we’ve been missing in the locker room).

It’s safe to say the former Duck likes wearing the spoked ‘B’.

“It’s the Boston Bruins. It’s an extremely attractive place to be. I looked at their team and I talked with my agent and my family, and it’s always been a place that I’ve liked,” said Beleskey during the duo’s first official meeting with the Boston media on Tuesday afternoon inside the Bruins dressing room. “I didn’t really look at the situation because with any team you’re going to have to earn what you get. It was a great opportunity and a great team, and I’m just happy to be here.

“The Big Bad Bruins play that physical style, and they’ve always been a team that I’ve liked watching. Cam Neely is in the front office, and watching him play was always exciting. They’ve always been a team I’ve been drawn to.”

Jimmy Hayes is even more excited to be in Boston. He’s a local kid from Dorchester. He spent three years at Boston College, helping them win the NCAA Championship back in 2010. For him, it’s nothing short of achieving a life-long dream.

He also has a serious family connection to the Boston Bruins. He has three cousins with ties to the organization. Ryan Fitzgerald is currently a prospect in the Bruins organization. Scott Fitzgerald is the Assistant Director of Amateur Scouting for the Bruins. Ryan’s father and Jimmy’s cousin Tom played the last of his seventeen NHL years in a Black and Gold sweater.

“They’re known as the Big Bad Bruins,” said Hayes of his new team. “So it’s always been a heavy game playing against them. I’ve probably played more games in this city than anywhere else in my career. Since I’ve been a child here I’ve had some unbelievable college moments, and some of my first pro moments were here too. So I think the whole hockey experience coming back to a city that loves hockey is going to be incredible.”

The Bruins needed some new energy to make up for lost members.  Dougie Hamilton didn’t want to be here. The Bruins parted ways with Merlot Men Daniel Paille and Gregory Campbell. They moved Milan Lucic to Los Angeles.

Hayes and Beleskey will bring some of that energy back to Boston. It’s certainly needed and gladly welcome.
