Boston Bruins Visit Children’s Hospitals
“It’s just the little things, the simple things in life that you can do to make other people happy.” – Torey Krug
Hockey players are made up of some of the toughest men you will ever come to know in a lifetime. However, they are also some of the most down to earth and most genuine people to exist.
While the Boston Bruins are usually hard at work on the ice, some took the time out of their crazy schedules to go around to different hospitals throughout Boston and brighten the day of some children. The Bruins split up into groups to deliver valentines, red roses and cookies to children at Boston Children’s Hospital, Floating Hospital for Children at Tufts Medical Center, Franciscan Hospital for Children, MassGeneral Hospital for Children, Shriners Hospital for Children, and Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital.

The ringleader, none other than Patrice Bergeron. The act of generosity goes to show one of the many reasons he won the King Clancy Award last season, an award given to “the player who best exemplifies leadership on and off the ice and who has made a noteworthy humanitarian contribution to his community.”
In addition to doing these acts of kindness throughout the season for the Boston community, he also has Patrice’s Pal program that brings local hospital patients and children’s organizations, who may not otherwise have the opportunity to experience a game, to TD Garden to watch the Bruins play from the view of a luxury suite and meet and take photographs with Patrice.
The Bruins also participate in visiting Children’s Hospitals during Halloween, dressing up as different characters to brighten the days of children in need. During the holiday months, they host a Toy Drive to go shopping for toys for kids in need and then deliver them in time for Christmas. This Valentines Themed contribution was in place of the Toy Drive that unfortunately had to be postponed.

The gentle acts of kindness from this team are what ties them to the community and keep us wanting more. While I’m not sure if we love the Bruins because we see ourselves in them, or if they love us because they see themselves in our city, but, I don’t think it matters either way. They have become a important piece to the community that makes us whole.
Many members of the Bruins organization participate in activities throughout the surrounding community through the Bruins Foundation. Through grants they provide support to numerous organizations that focus on the enrichment of communal social welfare. In addition to the Foundation a number of team members take part in innumerable trips to local schools, hospitals, charities and participation in nationwide events such as Movember, Cuts for a Cause, Boston Strong and Hockey Fights Cancer.
