The National Hockey League announced the remainder of the NHL All-Star list today, and this season only one of the Boston Bruins made the cut. Thankfully, it is the best Bruin we have on the team.  B’s forward Patrice Bergeron has been named to the 2015 NHL All-Star team. Believe it or not, this will be Bergeron’s first time going the All-Star game. (Kind of strange that this is the first time the two-time Olympic champion and two-time Selke winning center is going in his ten-year career.)

  • Bergeron has played in all but one of the Bruins games so far in the 2014-15 season. He’s second in goals(ten), and first in both assists (twenty-one) and total points(thirty-one). He’s currently a +8. Bergeron is second in the league in total number of face-off wins (553) and second in face-off percentage(59.3%).

Bergeron (commonly known as “Bergy” or “Rafters”) is a player that has become the soul of the franchise.  His number thirty-seven has all but earned a place in the TD Garden ceiling. He’s a player that has spent his entire career with the franchise (701 games). He is one of those players that is universally respected by the players and fan bases of every team in the league.  He won the NHL 2015 cover at the end of last season beating out every other player in the league (easily defeating fellow finalist P.K. Subban of the Montreal Canadiens). Not only did he win the Selke at last year’s NHL awards, he was also the recipient of the NHL Foundation Player Award. That award is given to the player “who applies the core values of hockey — commitment, perseverance and teamwork — to enrich the lives of people in his community.”

Bergeron’s career numbers have certainly earned him this honor as well. He has put up a total of five hundred and twenty-six points for the Black and Gold(193 goals). He has accrued only two hundred and fifty-three penalty minutes in his entire career, and currently has a +116 rating over his NHL career. So far, the Bruins alternate captain has thirty-nine game winning goals in his career, with last year being a career-high with seven.

Congratulations to Patrice Bergeron who will represent the Black and Gold well at the All-Star Game. The All-Star Game will take place on January 24th and 25th in Columbus, Ohio.
